Emmanuel Monzon ,French plastic artist and photographer. Living in SEATTLE.
Emmanuel Monzon studied at Les Beaux Arts in Paris. Exhibiting since 1992 mainly in France, he has participated in many shows ans private exhibitions. MONZON is part of a stream of artists who, from the early 90’s onwards, worked on the topic of “Daily Life” with deliberately modest means (as opposed to current high-tech artists). He has worked alongside artists such as Thomas Schulte, known for his paintings of canned food, Antoinette Ohannessian who applies trivial sentences heard on radio or TV onto artistic canvases, and Jean-Christophe Robert who reconstruct everyday objects into sculptural works of art.
MONZON has chosen his line of work by the choice, attracted by the medium fast speed of execution ans the possibility to provide an un-edited rendition of global reality.
Two major themes that are dear to him are explored: the everyday environment (urban landscapes) and personal mythology (family, friends, and holiday scenes).
Since 2006 MONZON has focused on the famous iconic object developed by Apple: the iPod. He uses it as a transmitter of and a support for his own pictures, remixing his early works by scanning and integrating old and new objects: body, car carcasses, targets, video surveillance cameras, self-portrait, artwork, logos, branding, and weapons…all done by thematic series.
True to his minimalism approach MONZON has worked mainly on small formats, focusing his artistic quest on the representation and reproduction of an image which has been his field of study since his early days.
This quest on the representation also finds its expression through his photography work which always about human being without ever showing him.

Emmanuel Monzon, artiste français,vit a Seattle apres 6 ans passe en Asie (Singapour). Expose depuis 1992 principalement en France et a participé a plusieurs salons ou exposition collectives. Il fait parti d’un courant d’artistes qui a partir des années 90 ont travaillé sur le « quotidien global » avec des moyens volontairement modestes (par opposition aux courant high tech), tel que THOMAS SCHULTE qui peint le quotidien alimentaire sur des boites de sardines ou ANTOINETTE OHANNESSIAN qui brode sur de multiples supports des phrases banales, entendues a la radio, à la télévision ou dans son entourage ou encore JEAN CHRISTOPHE ROBERT qui recompose l’objet usuel en volume sur châssis. EMMANUEL MONZON s’inscrit dans cette lignée par le choix du support, l’exécution rapide, neutre sans artifice confortant parfaitement cette notion désincarnée de quotidienneté globale.
Par la suite, il élargit son champ d’action travaillant avec des techniques diverses, reproduisant homothétiquement en grand format ses propres dessins ou peintures sur des surfaces industrielles. Deux grands thèmes qui lui sont chers sont développés : le thème du quotidien environnemental, fait de paysages urbain (autoroute, échangeur, zone pavillonnaire, ou industrielle) et celui qui reproduit des scènes de sa mythologie personnelle (famille, amis, scènes de vacances).
A partir de 2006, Emmanuel Monzon s’approprie l’objet emblématique d’APPLE, le IPOD. Il l’utilise comme un émetteur et le support de ces propres images, n’hésitant pas a « remixer » les travaux de ses débuts par numérisation, et en y intégrant anciens et nouveaux signes : corps, carcasses de voiture, cibles, cameras de vidéo surveillance, autoportrait, œuvres d’art, logos, branding, armes, etc. constitué en série.
Fidèle à sa démarche minimaliste, il se limite au petit format, réactualisant ses interrogations artistiques sur le questionnement de la représentation et de la reproduction d’une image. Emmanuel Monzon mêle une recomposition plus agressive à une esthétique de la tension assumée.
Depuis ces débuts,Emmanuel Monzon explore avant tout le champ entre l’image et sa reproduction.
